Yoko Ono posted this picture today of John Lennon's bloodstained glasses he was wearing when he was shot and killed by Mark David Chapman. She wanted to send a message about gun violence in America since his death. Link in comments.
John Lennon's glasses, posted today (3.20.13) by Yoko Ono on her Twitter acount. She tweeted "Over 1,057,000 people have been killed by guns in the USA since John Lennon was shot and killed on December 8, 1980."
This is a famous photo. It's one thing to shoot the fellow, that is bad enough - but the fact that it was a big spectator sport, with a crowd of onlookers like it was a ballgame or something, is just brutal. They must have been standing there for a while, judging from all the dead bodies and the bored expressions on the spectators' faces.

Edgar Allan Poe in his coffin -- On Oct.3, 1849 Poe was found on the streets of Baltimore delirious, "in great distress, and... in need of immediate assistance", according to the man who found him, Joseph W. Walker. He was taken to the Washington College Hospital, where he died on Sunday, October 7, 1849, at 5:00 in the morning. The newspapers reported he died from "congestion of the brain", a euphemism for a disreputable cause such as alcoholism. The actual cause of death remains a mystery...
