'A Peep Into A London Ghetto' - Jews Marketing in Wentworth Street, c1890s. I do not know who wrote this subtitle but I think I am going to have apoplexy! They are not Jews. They are Irish, Dutch, German, Chinese, Lascars, Russians (various countries), Poles, Prussians and English and more ...... and it wasn't a ghetto! Aaarrgghhh.......
This photo dates from 1933 and is of a Christmas party organized by the Hoxton Market Christian Mission London The mission is described as having been a “soup kitchen and refuge for the poor… It was founded in 1881 by brothers John and Lewis Burtt.” The Burtts themselves were found living on the streets as boys and brought up by a local charity.
