Mother of Achilles To protect her son in battle, Thetis provided Achilles with armor made by Hephaestus, the smith of the gods. But during the war at Troy, Akhilleus was angered by Agamemnon, he refused to fight. Instead, he gave his armor to his friend Patroclos.
