Deceptive Tooth Decay. Decay that develops between teeth is rarely visible to the naked eye. Even on dental x-rays, decay is not apparent until there's at least 30% loss of tooth structure. In this case, careful assessment of the x-rays led to suspicion of decay, and this was confirmed once cavity removal was initiated.
