One Man’s Genius Idea To Grow Tomatoes

[Via realfarmacy.com and hometalk.com] James Bryan had a bright idea that resulted in something brilliant. Gardeners and repurposing fanatics behold, keyhole garden, meets tomato cage, meets drip irrigation. The setup is obviously simple yet highly functional and effective. You can whip one of these up for next to nothing, especially if you salvage the fencing. Bryan says: I started may 28th planting 4 tomatoes around a garbage can with holes drilled in the bottom rim and a second row up…

Comfrey fertiliser

Here's another natural fertiliser that's easy to make. You may have been cursing the comfrey for its vigour as you hacked it down once again, but quite apart from its usefulness it’s also a very attractive plant to have growing around your plot that attracts bees. If you're interested in producing natural fertilisers you may also find the post on nettle fertiliser of use. Comfrey is a perennial herb with a black turnip-like root and large hairy broad leaves and produces small bell-shaped…

A Frugal Gardener: DIY Cardboard Seed Starting Pots

Round pegs in a square box. Are you looking for ways to repurpose household disposables? Several years ago, I tried using bathroom tissue rolls to start plants. It was successful, but not ideal. A great deal of space was wasted trying to fit round rolls in a rectangular box. Since then, I've searched for some way to utilize the rolls.
