Victorian Sterling Silver Sewing Egg by Tiffany & Co c1880. A hand chased sterling silver egg shaped thimble, needle and spool holder. The egg unscrews and the spool holder pulls off a central support which also serves a needle container. Alt pics on source.

This is in as nearly perfect condition as I have ever seen for it's kind and age, Victorian circa 1850. For years, ladies wore necessary and useful implements clasped to the waist of their dresses because clothing was not made with pockets for carrying such items. They were usually worn suspended…
