The Sovereigns Orb is formed from a hollow gold sphere, mounted with a zone and arc with clusters of emeralds, rubies and sapphires, surrounded by rose-cut diamonds, each in a champleve enamel mount, between single rows of pearls. These two regalia appeared in Russia only in the reign of Boris Godunov. These two symbols of the highest power were ordered to the workshop of Rudolf II in 1599-1600 through Russian Ambassador to Rudolf's court. There is a legend that these regalia and the cap were presented to Vladimir Monomakh in the 11th century, but it s a fake:: they appeared at Russian court only in 1604.
