Al parecer, el Nilo surgió del sudor de Sobek, pues este dios fue su creador. Era llamado "Señor de las aguas". Sobek era adorado para favorecer la fertilidad y la abundancia, y para alejar el peligro de los cocodrilos del Nilo.
