Jamie Walton | Nettles & Petals on Instagram: "DIY Compost Bays using Pallets 🌱 A good composting system is the heart of the vegetable garden, creating nutrient rich compost to mulch the garden and feed the soil. 🪱 I decided to make the compost bays for the new garden using pallets as they are cheap, or free, and generally easy to access. The section of the new garden I chose for the bays had been neglected for a number of years, so was really overgrown with ivy and holly. 🌿 It took me a while, but I eventually cleared the area and then levelled it off ready for the pallets. 😅 For garden use opt for heat treated (HT) and stay away from any which have (MB) printed on them, which means they’ve been treated in a harsh pesticide called Methyl Bromide. We find that cats, in particular, love to dig up freshly planted beds, and this little trick works to keep them out every time.
