Sleeve buttons were used at the wristbands of shirts throughout the 18th and into the 19th centuries. Eventually, "shirt button" became "shirt link" and later "cuff link" although the structure underwent change as well. These Pinwheel Sleeve Buttons are 1/2" and copied from an original pair of English provenance.
