Celilo Falls in Oregon doesn't look like this anymore. Although archaeological evidence suggests that Native peoples have lived and fished at this spot in The Dalles for more than 11,000 years, in 1957 the falls were wiped out by the construction of The Dalles Dam. The residents of the nearby village were forced to move. I daresay I have probably benefited from that dam, but damned if it doesn't feel all wrong and spooky when you stand around looking at where it used to be.
