Perhaps the most storied cruise liner (after the Titanic) was the Queen Mary which gloriously plied the oceans from 1936 - 1967. During WWII, she became a troopship along with her sister, the Queen Elizabeth. After the war, she returned to elegance as a transatlantic liner until age forced her retirement in 1967. Revitalized as a hotel in Long Beach, Calif., today she struggles to survive the storms of economic uncertainty.
