RCW 79, an emission nebula in Centaurus. Credit:NASA/Hubble. RCW 79 is an emission nebula, a star-forming region of about 70 light-years across that lies some 17,200 light-years from Earth in the southern constellation of Centaurus.

This bubble of ionized gas and warm dust, called RCW lies in the southern Milky Way, light years from Earth in the constellation Centaurus, and probably took about one million years to form from the radiation and winds of hot young stars.
