Death and the Maiden - George Clark Stanton (1832 - 1894) For me, "Death and The Maiden" images are about the mystical union between Amima figures and Shadow figures that represent the collective unconscious. Again Death embraces the maiden from behind. It's interesting how often the maiden is alabaster skinned and red-rusty-haired in these images.
