Victorian Wedding Cakes
Queen Victoria commissioned the original tiered wedding cake. Before that, couples would kiss over a tall pile of iced buns for good luck. In 1858, Queen Victoria's daughter Princess Victoria commissioned the first columned wedding cake modeled after the elaborate spire atop of London's St. Bride's Church. She married Frederick William of Prussia. A team of 4 people worked for 7 days to craft this 42-inch tall masterpiece.
