Ban'ei is a draft breed from Japan. It's not actually used as a draft but for ban'ei racing, which is about pulling heavy sleds up the sand ramps. Ban'ei horse is developed for that sport by crossing Percherons, Bretons and Brabants. Today ban'ei racing is quite rare, races are held only at one racecourse. I suppose that this means also rarity of Ban'ei horses as there are no other use for them, expect for occasional meat production.
