The Horsehead Nebula is a cloud of ionized-hydrogen in the constellation Orion. These clouds are lit from within by young, hot stars. The interstellar dust absorbs the light from part of the ionized cloud creating this beautiful contrast. Image Credit: NASA, NOAO, ESA and The Hubble Heritage Team (STScI/AURA):

Orion. Its brightest stars are Beta (Rigel -- leg to our right) and Alpha (Betelgeuse -- shoulder to the left), a blue-white and a red supergiant respectively. This image is helpful to see just how reddish Betelgeuse is.

Standing out: The bright, pinkish-white star at upper left of Orion, known as the hunter, is Betelgeuse. AKA a red supergiant, Betelgeuse is in the last stages of its life; increasing in size and sending its stellar material into space at a tremendous rate. Image credit: ESO

The Sword Of Orion ~ The Orion constellation is noticeable for three medium-bright stars in a short, straight row. These stars represent Orion’s Belt. If you look closely, you’ll notice a curved line of stars “hanging” from the three Belt stars.
