Medieval Courtly Love. Rules for love between unruly knights and women of the court. It was made popular by Eleanor of Aquitaine in the 12th C., who enlisted Andreas Capellanus to write the "Rules of Courtly Love" down. The contradictory rule were supposed to be studied and meditated on as part of keeping the knights well behaved.
