TRADITIONS - Croatian weddings have traditions that stretch back for hundreds of years. Branches of rosemary are pinned to each guests, it represents hospitality and welcome by the hosts. Still done in most Croatian weddings!
The Rosemary Buttonhole As guests enter the reception, they are greeted with a stem of rosemary wrapped in ribbon (usually red white and blue) which is pinned like a buttonhole to their left side as a sign of welcome.
A fun Croatian tradition is to have a shot table once guests arrive at the reception. Traditional liqueurs include brandy made from honey (Medica), plum (Šljivovica), cherry (Višnja), pear (Kruškovac) and walnut (Orahovac).
In accordance with Croatian wedding custom, rosemary is offered for pinning to lapels and blouses of wedding guests. Tradition maintains that rosemary (wrapped in the traditional colors of the Croatian flag) wards off evil.
