Production "Standard" model Questar 3-½ of 1955. Ruggedized versions of the telescope became the first space telescopes. These were launched on unmanned rockets with film cameras attached. Later manned Gemini spacecraft took photo-visual model Questars to orbit. A calibrated target one foot (30.8 cm) across could be detected on the ground from orbit using the 3.5-inch (89 mm) aperture superfine Questar telescope.
