Entamoeba histolytica

Entamoeba histolytica

E.histolytica has two stages which are trophozoite and cysts. The cysts are marked by the presence of a chromatoid body, and chromatin clumping along with several karyosomes. The trophozoite is makred by a single karyosome and ingested RBC. The infection can be treated with iodoquinol, paromomycin, metronidazole, dehydroemetine, and combinations.

A certain parasitic amoeba (Entamoeba histolytica) kills about 70,000 people each year, but how exactly it causes apparent, devastating tissue damage has been unclear. Recently, a group of researchers found that the amoebas actually kill a person's cells by eating those cells alive! It's a very unusual tactic.
