When one spoke of Hip Hop, one cannot talk about it without Kool Herc.  DJ Kool Herc organized massive bloc parties which was a means to divert gangs and to help stop the violence in New York.  Hip Hop was born to stop the violence not to provoke it.  It gives people another outlet for their anger and frustration through music.
