While living in Utah, I learned about Isadora Duncan. She was a revolutionary dancer at the turn of the century. She danced barefoot, and wore mostly scarves when she performed her free-formed, fluid dances. At the time when proper ballet was the trend, she turned pop culture on its head and changed the expression of dance forever.
.Duncan was the first American dancer to deemphasize scenery and costumes in favor of a simple stage setting and simple costumes. By doing this, Duncan suggested that watching a dancer dance was enough.
