Jomo Kenyatta (20 October 1893, Gatundu -22, August 1978, Mombasa) was the leader of Kenya from independence in 1963 to his death in 1978, serving first as Prime Minister (1964-64) and President (1964-78). He is considered the founding father of the Kenyan nation. He is also the father of Kenya's 4th and current President Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta. He is an alumni of the London School of Economics.
