Capital ornamental pear grows to about 7m tall and 4m wide, a good choice for narrow areas. In spring covered with a profusion of white flowers to 20mm wide, followed by small, russet coloured fruit. In autumn the dark green leaves change to reddish-purple. Tolerates dry conditions, slightly alkaline soils, air pollution and intermittently wet, heavy soils. Grow best in full sun; easily transplanted. 'Capital' needs protection from strong winds, has good disease resistance.
