"HANAFUDA" by 5-pieces, via Flickr. Hanafuda (花札) are playing cards of Japanese origin (karuta cards), used to play a number of games. The name literally translates as ‘flower cards’. A Hanafuda deck consists of 48 cards divided into 12 suits of 4 cards each. Each suit is named after one of the twelve months of the year and each has its appropriate flower in major and minor cards.
