Above is a photo of Serratia marcescens, a Gram-negative bacillus.  For centuries, it was thought this was the blood of Christ, due to its ready appearance in bread or other damp areas.  Once S. marcescens was discovered in the 1800s, it was later used as an explanation for miracles involving transubstantiation and the appearance of blood on the Eucharist.  read more on the link.

Salmonella enterica can cause diarrhea, and is transmitted by the fecal-oral route. When grown on this media, it It produces hydrogen sulfide which makes its colonies appear BLACK.  the bright yellow colonies are coliforms (normal gastrointestinal bacteria that are released in human feces).
