Cassandra Wilson, jazz musician, vocalist, songwriter, producer and one of the founding members of the avant-garde jazz collective, M-Base. She is known for her vocal ability to stretch and bend pitches, elongate syllables, manipulate tone and timbre from dusky to hollow. She incorporates country, blues and folk music, and was arguably the 1st to tie post-British Invasion pop into jazz.
