Architectural Ornament - Acrotirion examples - It is thought that the palmette originated in ancient Greece 2,500 years B.C., and has influenced Roman art. Acrotiri were used to decorate door portals as seen in Pompeiian wall paintings. They can still be readily found and used in Greek domestic architecture.
