the von martius and von spix expedition to brazil
Carl Friedrich Philipp von Martius and Johann Baptist von Spix were sent to Brazil by the king of Bavaria. From 1817 to 1820, they traveled from Rio de Janeiro through several of the southern and eastern provinces of Brazil, and ascended the Amazon River to Tabatinga, and some of its larger affluents. Later (1840-1906), many lithographies were published in the monumental "Flora Brasiliensis", after the death of von Spix (1826). Here are some of its great drawings of the Brazilian landscape.
