On Pentecost Island, the land-diving ceremony called the Naghol (it inspired the sport of bungee jumping in nearby New Zealand) takes place during the harvest season and is a rite of passage for island men.
Vanuatu Flag~ The flag of Vanuatu was officially adopted on February 18, 1990. The Vanuatu chain of islands is in the shape of a Y, and the yellow horizontal Y on the flag is representative of same, as well as yellow being symbolic of sunshine; green symbolic of the fertile lands, red symbolic of bloodshed for freedom, and black represents the Melanesian people that originally settled the islands. Also, the pig tusks represent wealth and status in Vanuatu.
