Como Pleasure Grounds, ca. 1900 -In 1865 Thomas Holt acquired approximately 12,000 acres of land along the southern foreshores of the river. In 1885 a railway bridge was built across the Georges River as part of the Illawarra Railway line, which prompted Holt to subdivide and auction a parcel of his land adjoining the new station at Como. The Como Hotel was built in 1880 to 1882 adjacent to the railway line on the western slopes of Scylla Bay.
