Mario Gabriele Andretti is one of the most successful American racing car drivers. He was born in what was then northern Italy and now Croatia, and with his family came to the United States as refugees when he was 15. He won the 1978 Formula One World Championship driving for Lotus-Ford, four IndyCar titles and a World Sportscar Championship. In Formula One. he had 128 starts for 12 wins, driving for Lotus, March, Ferrari, Parnelli, Alfa Romeo and Williams between 1968 and 1982
