Chernobyl, a city in northern Ukraine, has been mostly uninhabited since a reactor in the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant exploded on April 26, 1986, leaking unsafe levels of radioactive material into what is now known as the Zone of Alienation. It took 3 days to evacuate all of its roughly 15,000 residents.
