After 20 years of working there, Alvar Aalto’s architecture practice outgrew the modest studio space in his home near Helsinki, and in 1956 he re-located it to a building just down the road. Numerous buildings testify to Alvar Aalto’s intensive design activity outside of Finland. Of the six buildings which he completed in Germany, three are to be found in the city of Wolfsburg: the Alvar-Aalto-Kulturhaus and two churches, Heilig-Geist-Kirche and Stephanuskirche.
