Doodlebugs and Rosebuds Quilts: 2 1/2" Square Scrappy Top Finished

Looking back on things, I chose the perfect time to make a scrappy quilt. Sewing together 2 1/2" squares in a somewhat random way is really mindless. I didn't have to concentrate on anything, really. I went back and forth on what to do with the borders of this quilt and after realizing that I didn't have enough of the white fabric to do what I had in mind, I decided to add three more rows of the scrappy squares. I love it!! There are so many fun fabrics in this quilt and some go way back to…

Today, I would have been greeting Laura and Charlotte, just a couple of my students, to my Flutter class at the Garden of Quilts event but as you are aware, there are no classes, lectures, demos or trunk shows this year (above picture taken at LAST year's Garden of Quilts event).  Flutter is such a fun, happy and lively design that we patterned with Hidden Shoofly  as part of our TWO Designs in ONE Pattern concept!!  Do you want to know why? Show Me Sewing: Finishing the Weave String Pieced Scrap Quilt Tops

Years ago I posted what I was doing with strips of 1" wide fabric and how I was putting it together to make string scrap quilt of 8-1/2" blocks. (See link.) Then about a year later, as I was going through the blocks I had made, I found that some of the blocks I had made were not as wide as they should have been. (See link.) Turned out my 1/4" foot made a generous 1/4" (read, "not a quarter inch") and as I unpicked a good chunk of what I had done and contemplated my plan, I made a slight…

PJ's Crafty Creations: Pole Twist - String Block Style!

Yes, I'm still playing around and tinkering with string blocks - if you haven't seen it - check out my other string block post here: String Blocks and More! One of the quilt layouts I had drawn up was to arrange the string blocks in a pole twist (twisted ribbon) style quilt. This quilt is essentially made with 90 String Block Half Square Triangles. With a 9 HST across x 10 HST down, three borders: the quilt measures about 84" x 91". UPDATE: Don't forget to go to the bottom of this post to…
