Adding a portico gives a small area of coverage in an entryway providing shelter from the rain. It also adds architectural detail and defines an entryway. There are so many great options for porticos, but since this one was for a garage we went with simple. We built the frame and bracing out of wood, used slats of 3/4" pin for the roof, and found a bundle of cedarwood shingles for less than $20 at Home Depot!
