The August art session with my little "firsties" was a HUGE success. We created "Wild About 1st Grade" self-portraits. They turned out so dang cute! It was a lot of fun to combine some guided art along with "do your own thing" directions. The bulletin board is adorable. We'll be adding their writing prompt responses to "I'm WILD About 1st Grade Because..." as soon as we finish the edit process. Ah, sun and sea! What a wonderful combination for summer. Let your kids capture it with our sea sunset art lesson with warm and cool colors.

This lesson is an original by Julie Werkman, who I student taught with 25 years ago. It is a great lesson for teaching the elements of art! Line, shape, color, texture, and value are all worked in! Any fishy book of your choice maybe the inspiration! First, we paint some light to dark blue waves on a large 18x24 blue construction paper for our fish bowl. Today was day one of week three and man oh man has it been interesting so far (aside from a kindergartener throwing up on my brand new carpet today)!
