An influencer shared a hack for using popular dandruff shampoo Head & Shoulders as a face wash to clear up acne, with many questioning whether her hack is a miracle or a mistake.

Dr. Neera Nathan on Instagram: "Head & Shoulders is not just for dandruff. It contains pyrithione zinc, which is anti-fungal and antibacterial, making it one of the cheapest home remedies for a variety of skin conditions.

For fungal acne: “Fungal” acne is actually malassezia (pityrisporum) folliculitis and is caused by the same yeast as dandruff. It presents as tiny, itchy monomorphic bumps on the forehead and hairline. H&S can be used as a face wash to help clear this condition. To use as a face wash, lather it on the face, leave it on for 2 minutes, then rinse off. Use 2-3x per week.

For seborrheic dermatitis: Seborrheic dermatitis is dry, flaky skin that occurs in between/around the eyebrows, on the side of the nose & behind the ears. It is related to dandruff.
