a white plate topped with meat and greens covered in sauce on top of a wooden table

Funny yeah . . . "Wendell's Lau Lau, betta den poi, betta den pig" . . . actually I should call it "Wendell's Huge Crockpot Lau Lau". He found the recipe at Hawaii Holiday Blog. Sprinkle 3/4 tbs. red Hawaiian sea salt onto cut up pork butt. I don't know how big the pork butt was and he's not home right now for me to ask. How about medium-sized pork butt? a piece of meat and some green vegetables on tin foil with water droplets all over it

I may get my mug on a Hawai'i wanted poster for this bastardized version of an island native recipe favorite. And if I end up in the slammer, I hope they serve Lau Lau for jailhouse meals! You can read all about the origins of Lau…

For all of us that have cooked taro leaves before, it’s a pain of an extra step…Worth it for lau lau, however. Not…

a slow cooker filled with green leaves on top of a white tile countertop

What would you consider YOUR ultimate comfort food? Mines would have to be Lau Lau. Not familiar with it? Lau Lau is a traditional Hawaiian dish that usually consists of salted fatty meat and fish, wrapped in luau (taro) leaves, then ti leaves. It is then cooked low and slow in either an imu (an underground oven) or a giant stove top steamer. Every Christmas/New Year, my family gets together to make Lau Lau. This is a family tradition that dates back to probably before I was even born. We…
