From Wednesday morning - there was not a bit of word about storms in the forecast. And then this monster random storm pops up out of nowhere - with the most bizarre asperatus cloud I've ever seen. And the lightning was spectacular. The only photoshopping I did on this photo was to increase the contrast in the clouds so it looked more like what the human eye was actually seeing - photos tend to come out flatter than the real image. These clouds in New Zealand look unlike anything I've seen before. These clouds are a rare type of cloud called "Undulatus asperatus" which means "agitated waves".

I want to go to there. This particular formation is an example of Undulatus asperatus--meaning "agitated waves"--which was proposed as a separate cloud classification in 2009 by... wait for it... the founder of the Cloud Appreciation Society. (I'm serious.)
