Here's a quilt I made several years ago, but is still one of my favorites! Somehow this quilt never made it to the blog. Probably because I stopped blogging as much when I discovered Instagram (dang Instagram!). This makes me sad. Because, although I post a pretty picture and a little blurb on Insta, I don't give half as many details about the inspiration, design and construction process, or talk much about what was going on at the time I made the quilt. And I forget over time. I…

Hey Everyone, Here is the tutorial for the tree block from Brooke (her's is putting together either the table runner or the bedrunner). Here is Sally's Bedrunner which she has finished (over achiever). Here is my tutorial since I had to be difficult and make the lap size :) Lap Size Tree Tutorial (pdf) Cut your biggest pieces first and then use the strips to cut the next pieces. This is written as if you are using 3 green fabrics but you can use whatever you like as long as you can get all…
Here is a delightful pieced quilt celebrating trees. What a beautiful way to showcase colorful batik fabrics. This would be a fun quilt to make and a real stash buster! p.s. check out our E-Bay shop f
Oh but I CAN see the forest for the trees! I’ve wanted to make a little forest of trees for some time now. Checking that off my list. And it is a ‘little’ forest. When all sewn together, each tree block measures just about 3.25” X 2.25”. I wanted a selvedge border so I dug around in my selvedges tote for neutral selvedges. Then the little wallhanging stalled while I figured out how to stitch the selvedges for an inner border. Of course I eventually figured it out. Simple in the ditch…
Freestyle slicing and piecing these tree blocks. Playing with dark and light as foreground and background and laying the pieces out in a way that pleases the eye. Finding it difficult/exhausting to vary the trees in appearance. I loose patience with it; but I do think the result is stunning and rewarding. Can't decide if I want to go any larger with this.
I cut 8 fabrics for the trees yesterday. The top 2 are from the same fabric. I see now that I could have cut along the edge of the different sections in the print like the right side of the one on the left. I might cut some more from that fabric if I can find a different group of flowers. I haven't pressed these yet so they aren't trimmed to their final size. I have the branch and trunk fabric chosen for the next four. There are only a few Black Eyed Susan plants left where there used to be…
At the Clamshell Quilters' Guild Quilt Show, I was thinking of Christy when I saw this.
A few weeks ago, I gave away my epic quilt top. Yes, that's right. I sent it to a friend. I had so many emotions wrapped up in this quilt. I didn't know if I loved....or even liked it, for that matter. A few different times I put it on my bed, just to see if I could convince myself that I loved it. I wasn't feeling it! Granted, it was just a quilt top, so the quilting could have helped it. Washing and drying probably would have helped, as well. I couldn't decide what to back it with and it…
