I create wheel thrown & hand sculpted vessels. I sketch each piece with hand cut tape to block areas of color. Each piece is then painted (glazed) and fired three times using a palette of up to 12 glazes. Nabelle, Xhosa tribes of S. Africa and Matisse are some of my inspirations.

A carved and polychrome decorated portrait bust of a lady on a carved and gilded oak base. The subject may be the artist's wife, the modern dancer Hilda Beyer. Incised signature 'MARIO KORBEL' to lower left of reverse. Mario Korbel (1882-1954) was a Czech-American sculptor who studied in Paris at the Julian Academie and at the Royal Academy at Berlin. In 1909, Korbel opened a studio in Chicago.
