I've only just begun to get to get to know Luna, I made my first one just a couple of weeks ago. And as soon as she was finished I simply had to make a tiny picnic blanket for her, so she could en

Diary of a Quilter - a quilt blog: Status update on Works in Progress

I’m proud and happy to share some promising progress on two more Works-in-Progress (WIPS)! Woo! First of all, I’ve finished the blocks for my Scrappy-Trip-Around-the-World quilt. I added some less-intense reds and more funky shades of the original colors and and I think it’s made a good difference. I like it MUCH better. It’s not...Read More

Postage stamp quilt that's the way to do it! Now I see this - after making one the hard way!

One of my friends told me about Rachel's Postage Stamp Quilt Along. I jumped over to PSIQuilt to check it out. I decided to use my pastel scraps for the Postage Stamp Quilt. I know I said I have to finish a few UFO's before I start another project, but here I am using my stash. Good enough reason for me to start another fun scrappy quilt. A strip sets. B strip sets. Yeah I am using my scraps! I love my Shape Cut ruler. You are probably wondering what is up with the blue painter's tape…

We inherited this from my husband's grandmother when she passed away. I'm trying to convince my husband it would be so much better out and in use than tucked away in a cedar chest. This is a twin size quilt. The tiny squares are all, well, postage stamp size. Each block contains 30 squares. Hand quilting. It takes my breath away. I've been saving scraps in the hopes of someday finding time to do a modern take on this.

Exuberant Color : 2 more blocks............

I sewed two more postage stamp blocks yesterday. The bottom right one is a pale lavender even though it looks white or pale gray in the photo. Donnie asked yesterday whether I do the twirling seam thing (when pressing) and the answer is no, I have never done it. I have been quilting 61 years and have only made a couple quilts where it might have helped the bulk. I think that method is right up there with hand tying and burying all of the thread ends. I use a backstitch on the sewing machine…
