Heukrip (men’s wide brimmed hat, black hat) Worn by Joseon noblemen, Heukrip was a type of Gwan (hat). It was usually referred to as a Gat. It was plaited with sliced horsehair or bamboo strips and painted black. The decorations on a Gat and its strings were used to determine social class. Lower-class people were not allowed to wear Gat during the early Joseon Dynasty. But over the years, these restrictions were relaxed.
