Mickey Mouse Month continues here at Tulgey Wood, and today Mickey helps us celebrate Thanksgiving Day. The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade always brightens things up. Today, the annual pageant will undoubtedly lift the spirits of those in New York and new Jersey and throughout the East who were so badly impacted by Superstorm Sandy. Vintage 1934, The first Disney character to appear in a Macy’s parade was none other than Mickey Mouse, who made his debut in 1934. Mickey measured over 50 feet tall and was constructed by the Goodyear Rubber Company. Here are some great images from the 1934 Macy's Christmas Parade that I've gleaned from various sources over the years. Note that many of the volunteers holding onto the tethered lines of the inflatable Mickey Mouse balloon are dressed in Mickey and Minnie Mouse costumes.
