Phases of the Moon Flip Book

Last week we played a great Phases of the Moon card game. This week I reused the graphics for another fun activity. I designed flip book pages, so my son could make his own "animation" of the moon moving through eight phases. I handed my oldest son three copies of the pages, which he cut out using my personal paper trimmer. Even our 5-year-old got in on the action. Once the pages were all cut apart, the 9-year-old sorted them into piles. With that completed, he looked at the reference sheet…

Minds in Bloom is pleased to welcome guest blogger Charity Preston, M.A. She's writing about authentic assessment and how it can be used in all grades K-12, not just in primary classrooms. Enjoy! Nurturing Emotional Intelligence

UPDATE: Want more? Check out this blog post, too. This feelings wheel rules! As Lil O gets older, I need to step up my "game" in helping her build resiliency and emotional intelligence. If you can't remember what that's all about, you can start here with the Marshmallow post. Or, you if haven't used HALTED, consider using it. It is a personal favorite of mine. I think all humans (age 8 and older) should understand how to HALT themselves. I HALT myself all the time. In efforts to step up my…

Making Inferences - Ashleigh's Education Journey

One of my favorite ways to introduce making inferences is through wordless picture books. They are a great first step toward this challenging skill, because it’s something students do on a daily basis. My students don’t necessarily realize that they are making inferences as they look at illustrations, so I guide them through the process […]
