55K views · 5.8K reactions | I call my style Semi-formal cottage garden because as much as I love a cottage garden, I still need some symmetry and repetition, and as much as I love a formal garden, I still need some whimsy and softer lines. We are deep in the throes of a backyard overhaul, and I just received my @provenwinners perennials shipment from @waltersgardens with some gorgeous plants to add to my backyard. I know they are going to add so much cool character, color and texture to my landscape vision. 28K views · 1K reactions | Not all soil is created equal. If you’re planting in containers, look for something that says “Potting Soil” or “Potting Mix” (no Topsoil, Garden Soil or native soil!) Potting Mixes aren’t actually soil at all - it’s a combination of elements like perlite, pine bark, sand, vermiculite, peat moss (or a renewable substitute!), that, in the right proportions provides prime conditions for roots in pots to thrive. Not all Potting Mixes are equal, so read the back or experiment to see what works best for you. The bigger the pot, the courser you want the substrate, to prevent compaction and encourage good drainage and airflow. True soils/in-ground soils often retain too much water, are heavy, and can become compact and restrict airflow to roots in pots. They also can potentially harbor insects, weeds and disease. Manufactured “Garden Soils” are good for in-ground plantings and raised beds. Let me know if you have questions and I’ll do my best to answer! And soil test is always the answer if you’re wondering what to add to your native soil or raised beds. ☺️ #garden #gardening #gardendesign #gardeningtips #containergardening #gardenpot #homegrown #homegarden #backyardgarden | Hearts & Spade | hearts_and_spade · Original audio
