On the head is wearing the victor's ribbon adorned with impressed silver. The face is enlivened by the inlaid eyes, the tufts of hair, and the youthful beard on his cheeks.
Ludovisi Ares - Roman marble sculpture of Mars, 2nd century copy of a late 4th century BC Greek original. The Roman god of war Mars (in Greek: Ares) is portrayed as young and beardless and seated on a trophy of arms. An Eros plays about his feet, drawing attention to the fact that Mars, in a moment of repose, is presented as a love object. Although discovered in the vicinity of the Tiber river in Rome in 1885, the style of this statue's drapery suggests that it originated in a workshop in Greece or Asia Minor.
