Stair detail with saltillo paver treads and Spanish tile
A wonderful way to make a utilitarian staircase really visually "pop" in the landscape. This is the secondarystairway at the back side of the house from the back yard to the front, mainly used for maintenance purposes. We also added inlaid Mexican Black Pebble between the flagstone pavers to continue the Spanish theme, and it helps keep the pathway less muddy when it really rains heavily in winter, and it was too shady for even Baby Tears to be successful in the dead of winter.

This elaborately tiled staircase leads to part of the Paseo shopping complex in Santa Barbara. I probably should have looked for a more interesting angle for shooting this, but I wanted to show the wonderfully patterned and colorful glazed tiles adorning the risers on each step. If my count is accurate, there are 12 rows of different tiles, repeated three times.
